Month 03.02 (part II) - A Wish Fulfilled

CROCS! YESSSSS!!!!

We asked Paige many times what she wanted from Santa. Every time she said, without hesitation, "Pink and Purple Crocs." Santa Delivered in style. He brought her two pairs of Crocs that were pink and purple. Paige also got the goggles that you see on her head in her stocking. It was our first Christmas together in our house. (We have always traveled in the past). It was nice to have Santa come to our house and Paige wake up here, but it was hard to be away from family. All in all, it was a very nice Christmas.

"This bow is as big as my face!"

You can come in my princess castle Grandpa Roger. Because you are the King!"

"A Swimming Back Pack! How did Santa know?"

Paige also got a swimming back pack from Santa. She is in the midst of learning how to swim. The little thing is amazing. You just strap it to her back, and off she goes cruising around the pool. She loved the ones at swim class, so now she can have one of her own.

Month 03.02 (part I) - The Nice List.

"Santa, I'm not on the Naughty list, am I?"

Paige confirmed with Santa that she made the Nice List (it was a barn-burner, that is for sure). We went to visit my parents up in Detroit Lakes the weekend before Christmas, and took a drive to the Santa Village at Rheault Farm in Fargo. It was really nice, and Paige had a great time, and got to meet Santa, Mrs. Claus, some of the reindeer, and even took a horse and buggy ride.

We had an impromptu snowball fight at the tree farm while picking out our Christmas Tree. Paige had a blast.

Month 03.01 - Fall Play Time

"Cannonball!"

(Sorry it has taken so long to get back to posting. Longer than I had hoped, but the last month and a half has been crazy busy.) Paige loves a good leaf pile. Unfortunately her shoes don't love to stay on her feet. It was an interesting fall as usual. The leaves turned casually, but dropped in large droves. Unfortunately as soon as we finished the second batch of raking we had a turn of colder weather and the last of the leaves dropped and ended up being covered in snow. (Which subsequently melted, but we are pretty tired of the leaf raking).

Week 02.52 (part two) - Three Peas.

"Funny face birthday photo!"

Well, another year has gone by. It is so hard to believe that Paige is already 3. She has grown so quickly this year. She has progressed from toddler to little girl. She had a blast at her birthday party, and had a lot of friends come over to visit. Including her good friend Kate and her new friend Amelia (see Amelia and her brother Jack's blog Here - Baby 366). I believe this marks the first photo of the two of them together, as they have not had an opportunity to play together before. I'm surprised the internet didn't break when I posted this. At first there was some shyness to get over, but that fell away quickly, and they were soon playing like the oldest of friends.

Moving on to next year, I don't know that I will keep a strict weekly format. We've been so very busy lately that I've been hard pressed to keep up, and I don't want to bore everyone with uninteresting pictures. I do, however, promise to post at least once per month. I am sure there will be plenty of bonus photos along the way too.

Week 02.52 (part one) - Beauty and the Beast

Paige had a hard time deciding what to be for Halloween. Then again, because she plays dress up all of the time, she doesn't have a lack of choices either. She ended up going with...

Week 02.51 - One, Two, Three!

"One, Two, Three! We LOVE Swimming!"

Paige is taking swimming glasses at the Family Swim School in Eagan. We can't say enough great things about it. She is taking to it like quite the champ too. Funny side effect, she tries to swim in the tub. Unfortunately she has also tried to "jump" into the water in the tub too. Have to reign that in just a bit I'd say.

Yes, she really does say that. Yes I need to get used to this look, and yes, she wasn't even three yet when this photo was taken. Crazy.

Week 02.50 - Fireman Bill

"Firefighters will come and save you Daddy. That is what they do."

Paige's Daycare had a visit from Fireman Bill. Paige was very excited to check out the fire truck and see what it was all about. She was especially excited to learn that firefighters will come and save you if there is a bad fire. She was so excited about her hat that she wanted a photo. I thought it would be a good chance to take a nice formal portrait. Her excitement sadly lasted only until I had the gear set up. Then she was over it.

We have to bribe Paige with Gummy vitamin in order to get her hair combed and put back. Apparently Nanna can french braid her hair with out much more than a "sit still."

"Like my pumpkin?"

Paige designed her bedazzled pumpkin without suggestions from others(just in case you doubted her talents). She was pretty proud.

"Thank's for the hay ride Grandpa Steve."

We went to the Little Farmer (an Apple Orchard just north of Fond du Lac). I think Paige might have enjoyed it more than Valerie, though it is kind of a toss up.

"We did it!"
They had a corn maze at the Little Farmer. Paige managed to guide us through the maze, even without being on a leash...(there was a father in the maze who had his son on one of those leash back packs. and Yes, this is me judging and shaking my head in disapproval.)

"This makes the corn maze worth it."

Paige enjoyed her Little Farmer Packers colored caramel apple. She probably didn't enjoy it quite as much as Valerie, but I'm not sure that is possible.

Week 02.49 - A Cottage in the Woods

We got Paige her Birthday present a little early this year in the hope that she could use it a bit before the snow starts flying. In case you couldn't tell from the photograph above, Paige was pretty excited.

Week 02.48 - Bombs Away.

Yes, that hay bale is taller than Paige is. Yes she jumped right off the bale without hesitation. Yes, I almost had a heart attack. Yes she was just fine, and rolled into the landing like a champ. So much for a relaxing day at the apple orchard.

So, I wouldn't recommend going to the Afton Apple Orchard. They make you pay an admission price of $3.00 per person just to go into the orchard area, and then have signs posted all over that you can't eat any apples out in the orchard as you need to pay for them. Paige the scofflaw was having none of it though. She ate an apple with nary a thought to the crazy orchard rules.

"No Daddy, I should say Pumpkin PIE."

To be fair they did have a lot of equipment for Paige to play on, as well as the large hay tower.

"It's dark outside."

Getting blue and pretty dark on the way to daycare these days.

Week 02.47 - Aporkalypse.

"Oh, No!"

Paige had a minor disaster. She was putting some change in her piggy bank, and went to pick it up. She lost her grip (no surprise, given how heavy it was) and the little pig gave up the ghost. Paige took it really really hard. We loaded up as much as we could into her back-up piggy bank and carted it off to the bank, so she could deposit the money into her savings account.

"Yippee, what should I buy?"

Because she is doing such a good job of saving money, she was able to go shopping with Valerie and pick something out to purchase. She bought a very nice Crayon/Colored Pencil/Marker/Cray-pas set, because she loves to color. Hopefully it lasts longer than the piggy bank (doubtful).

Paige's hair is officially long enough to braid. Valerie is loving it. Apparently all that hard work practicing in church on the ribbons in the song book paid off.

Just another fun-filled afternoon at the Eagle's Nest indoor playground with her friend Kate.

"Jump, Jump, JUMP!"
We had a very eventful and fast-paced Twin Cities Marathon weekend. I ran the Twin Cities Marathon 10K race, then hopped on my bike to meet Paige and Valerie to head over to her gymnastics class at Highland Park High School. We then had to hop back on our bikes and head back over to the State Capitol Grounds for Paige's race.

"I can see the finish. I can make it!"

We made it just in time for Paige to hop in to her age group heat. Paige ran the half-mile race, and pretty much ran the entire way.

"There's nothing like some salty snacks and a bit of water after a long race, is there Daddy?"

Paige enjoyed some post-race snacks for a couple minutes before we had to hop on our bikes and head back home, as Valerie had to work that afternoon. All in all it was a fun-filled day.

Week 02.46 - Strike a Pose

"Ahhhh Daddy no more pictures."

It used to be so easy to have her sit for a photo. Ok, maybe it wasn't "easy" but at least she didn't move so fast. see Just One More Shot. Then again, she does seem to be developing a relaxed pose for the camera, I just want to avoid that hammed up "cheese" smile EVERY time I take a picture these days. The thing is, how else can you get a two-year old to look at the camera?

Week 02.44 (Bonus) - Cabin Time

Well, I managed to miss a bunch of photos from Labor Day weekend (bad digital asset management on my part). Some of them were too good to hold back, so I need to make an extra post.

Paige's first Geocache. Ayden got a geocaching GPS, and we had to test it out. They had a lot of fun. As a bonus, we found a nice park that is only about a mile from Valerie's Dad's cabin.

Week 02.45 - Dress Up Champ.

We have converted our back porch into Paige's play room. Paige loves to play dress up, and then come busting through the back door to show what she put on. Apparently she also figured out how to take my hats off of the wall. I guess someone should get use out of my derby as I haven't worn it in about 5 years.

Paige was able to participate in the Forest Lake Little Kicker's camp, which is a half-day dance team camp put on by the Forest Lake High School Dance Team. She was the youngest one to participate, and unfortunately I don't think she really figured out what she was supposed to do. I guess for a 2 1/2 year old, just starting and finishing in the same position as everyone else is an accomplishment.

Week 02.44 - Last Gasp.

Well, after the stark shift from 90 degree weather to 50 degree weather, we had one last hot Sunday afternoon. Paige took advantage of it and spent some quality sprinkler-running time in the yard.

Paige loves to help in the Kitchen. Unfortunately stirring pancake batter for 15 minutes does not make better, more well-mixed pancakes. At least she had fun, and only spilled once.

Week 02.43 - The Great Minnesota Get-Together

Ah, to be a kid again, and the person sitting next to you on the Ferris Wheel at the State Fair. Paige can hit it off with just about anyone. Doesn't matter if they are older, younger, a boy or a girl. She is just happy as a clam, and anybody is her new friend.

Week 02.41 - Adventures in Redux

Another early morning shot of page on her way to day care. She chose her own outfit. Valerie is convinced she looks like she dressing like a high-schooler. I think she just likes colors and patterns. For reference, she looked like THIS. just one year ago (the second photo).

Paige took her annual pilgrimage to Wisconsin to spend the week with Grandparents. What trip would be complete without heading to the fair and feeding animals? (ok, so THIS was a different state and different set of grandparents, but come on, it completes the cycle (the last photo)...)

Week 02.40 - To the Top

We took advantage of some free passes to Wild Mountain in Taylor's Falls. They have an alpine slide, water slides, go karts and a small water park area. Paige was able to ride all of the rides, as long as she went with Valerie. She really like going up the chair lift to the top of the alpine slide, and of course the water slides.

I managed to grab this shot while driving another go kart. Probably not the smartest thing I've ever done.

They had a very fun water slide, it was set up to simulate going down a level of rapids with small pools in between. It was Paige's favorite. We must have gone down it 15 times.

Week 02.39 - Keep Cool.

Ok, so she isn't actually in a Disney movie, but when she is playing with her sand and water table, she sure goes all out. Now, if she could just figure out how to have a broom sweep up the mess...

Week 02.37 - Big Girl Bed

Paige has officially moved into her Dora themed big girl bed. She is super excited about her ladder and that she has a nice big Dora comforter. Every night she manages to get out at least once and bring her slew of books in with her. It works out really well, because there is a lot of open space below her bed to store all of her things.

Paige figured out that she could go faster down her slide by using her kick board.

Paige did a good job of helping me put her Big Girl Bed together. It only took about 4 hours, and 1 near complete dis-assembly, but we did it.

Week 02.36 - And the Wall Comes Down

Well, Paige is officially on her way to a big girl bed. We took the side of the crib off, so she can climb in and out of it. The first couple nights she didn't realize that she could get out of it herself, without us. Alas, that was very short lived. As soon as she realized she could get out of bed, she instantly rounded up pretty much every book she could grab and decided that she needed it in her bed.

Paige is getting pretty good at the alphabet and putting the letters into her puzzle.

Paige just loves walking across our backs and then seeing how far she can jump past our heads. I highly encourage this behavior (because it feels like you are getting a back massage!)

Week 02.35 - Sun Dresses and Spaghetti.

"I'm hungry Dada. Is Uncle Bryan married yet?"

Well, Paige was all dressed up for the Rehearsal for Uncle Bryan and Aunt Mandy's wedding (she was a flower girl), and she was hungry. To my surprise, she asked for "Spaghetti. Ia bag!" So she snacked on cold spaghetti in a bag. She was a trooper during the rehearsal, but was too afraid to walk down the aisle with Ayden. In the end, she did a great job at the wedding, and danced into the night (she stayed at the reception and danced until almost 11:00). I didn't have a chance to take any pictures on the wedding day as it was quite busy (I was ushering and running the sound board), and my camera battery died before we got to the reception. Maybe if we are lucky the photographers who shot the wedding got a nice shot of her.

We spent the week before the wedding up at the cabin helping get everything ready, and we sure were busy. Luckily Paige did manage to have some fun. (she always does).

Week 02.34 - I'm On A Boat and, I'm Going Fast, and

We took a nice boat ride with Grandpa Roger the day after the Brewer v. Twins game. It was a nice sunny day to be on the water. Paige had fun, but found it difficult dealing with the wind in her eyes.

Uncle Bryan had a surprise for Paige when we got to their house. He made chocolate chip cookies, and a special one just for Paige. She was a big fan.

Week 02.33 - Buy Me Some Peanuts and Cracker Jacks and Cotton Candy and a Hot Dog and Ice Cream and ...

"Why is everyone leaving?"

Well, it was the family brewer game again. Paige came along this year, and she had a blast. She was a real trooper, and made it the entire day without a nap (but she was out in 2 minutes flat on the way home). I would like to think that she is starting to understand baseball, but I am highly doubtful. She just likes all of the treats, and that she can run around in the parking lot before and after the game (well at Miller Park anyway, because if it was at Target Field, there is no tailgating).

Paige picked up the point of Bags very quickly. We gave her a little bit of a handicap.

Uncle Bryan helped Paige with some sparklers after the game. She thoroughly enjoyed it, and almost got burned only once (bonus!)

Week 02.32 - Another Day in the LIfe

"Can we get my car out of the garage?"

I don't know if this is every kid, or just Paige, but she absolutely has to take out every single toy she owns, pretty much every day. Ends up looking like a toy war zone. Now if we could just figure out how to get her to clean it back up, we would be golden. On a side note, just inside of a garage that is not facing the sun is an excellent location for a quick and dirty portrait session, in case you were wondering.

Week 02.31 - Swim.

The heat has returned, and it is time for some swimming. I think Paige would swim every day if she could. Had to bust out the blow up pool in the backyard. Thankfully we didn't pop it when blowing it up. (this time).

I had a conference at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Sadly the weather turned cold and rainy, but Valerie and Paige were still able to enjoy themselves at the indoor water park. Paige loved going down the big slides on rafts. Crazy.

Week 02.30 - Hard Times and Hard Sleep

"I don't wanna."

Times have been kind of tough with Paige lately. The week after memorial day was pretty trying, and sadly this was the only opportunity that really made for a good photo. She really enjoys travelling and seeing her family, but the change in routines is truly disastrous for her behavior. I took a shot like this, (Day 330 - So a Monkey, a Seahorse, a Kitty and a Baby Walk into a Crib...) during her first year as well. That one was probably better. It is sort of fun to see the continuing expansion of the "necessities" for sleep. This one would need to be called a monkey, a sea horse, a kitty, two turtles, an angel, 4 books, a big red teddy bear, a bee pillow and a baby walk into a crib.... The size difference is pretty amazing to see as well.

Only the one bonus photo this week. Paige had a blast running around with her cousins at the campground. She really looks up to them.

Week 02.29 - Paige Rides Again

"Watch me. Watch me. Watch me. Watch ME."

Those seem to be Paige's favorite words of late. She is started to really push to be the center of attention a lot of the time. Especially when she is around other children who are close to her age. We went camping with Grandma Alice and Grandpa Steve (as well as a horde of other family) for memorial weekend, and Paige managed to pedal her big wheel all by herself. Up until this point, she was only able to turn the pedals backwards. Progress!

Paige runs, all the time. I am concurrently amazed that she can run as quickly as she can, and trying to keep my heart out of my throat as I fear she is going to fall. She runs just over that edge where she is slightly out of control. Good for cross country racing. Bad for Dad's ticker.

Week 02.28 - First Fish

Paige and Valerie headed off to Grandpa Roger's cabin for the weekend, while I headed up to Ely to help my dad replace the plumbing at the place up there. Paige caught her first fish, a nice big Perch!

Week 02.27 - A Girl and Her Dog.

Paige and Kaija pretty much couldn't get along without each other any more. Valerie tried having Kaija in the back of the car on a trip, and Paige was not a big fan. Kaija might have enjoyed the space a little bit, but I swear that she is the only dog that can feign emotions just to get a reaction.

We spent a rainy Mother's Day at the Minnesota Zoo. We had a good time, but it was cut a little short by the rain. We ended up grabbing pizza and a pitcher of Nordeast at Ole Piper, so it turned out just fine!

We went to visit my parents in Detroit Lakes, and we went for a walk in the nature preserve. Paige had a blast running around and looking for alligators and lions. Sadly we didn't find any, but we had fun none-the-less.

Week 02.23 - Tunnel Slides

Time for a quick score tally. Head first sliding, no problem. Jumping off of 3 foot high steps, check, climbing up 8 foot tall chain letters, easy. The way I see it, if we can get her to put her shoes on the correct feet, we will have pretty much won at this parenting thing.

I never would have expected how much Paige would like the idea of monsters and masks. It seems like at least once a day she is talking about monsters. The above mask was a home-made mask she made at a birthday party of one our friend's child earlier in the year. She is certainly of the put on a mask and you are a different person crowd.

This is Paige's "Princess Fiona Hat" I have no idea why Princess Fiona would wear the hat, nor do I have any idea why she likes to wear it so far down on her head that it covers her eyes. I doubt we will ever find out the answer to these and many other mysteries of Paige's brain.

Week 02.20 - Badger Bummer

The Badgers had a less than successful Big Ten and NCAA tournament this year. Paige enjoyed watching the games with Valerie, but she can only handle about 10 minutes before getting pretty antsy.

we had a brief respite from the snow and cold. The sun came out, and then it all came crashing back down with another snow storm. Winter in Minnesota is relentless. Good thing Paige likes to play in the snow, or it might be a little difficult.

Week 02.18 - Thumb a Ride

We spent a few days vacation in the Wisconsin Dells at the Wilderness Resort. It was a great time, and Paige had a blast. Water-parks aren't exactly conducive to lots of photos, but Buffalo Phil's in the Dells certainly was. Paige loved the fact that her food was brought out to her on a train. It truly was pretty cool.

We had a pretty big snow storm while we were at Grandpa Roger and Nanna Denise's place before we went to the Dells. Which of course meant:

"It's my Snowman!"

Sadly, Frosty was pretty much gone by the next day. Paige lamended the fact over and over. "My snowman melted. My snowman melted."

"Silly Momma. Your hat is so tiny!"

We had a chance to ride along with the Project Linus float in the St. Patrick's Day Parade (which was held the Saturday before, rather than on St. Patrick's Day for some reason). Paige stayed warm up in the truck while Valerie and I handed out candy. It was super fun, and we even ran into Paige's cousin Ayden at the parade. Paige gave him a huge handful of Tootsie Rolls.

Week 02.17 - About Face.

The desire to not be photographed is growing stronger in this one ever day. now she is turning away from me and the camera a lot of the time that I take it out. The above statement is always followed with "play with me" so I'm guessing she wants less photog dad and more jump on his back and pull his hair dad. I was hoping that I would make it until she was 12 before she started physically avoiding the camera. Boo.

Well, unfortunately the Badger's Rose Bowl appearance turned out to be less than we had hoped, it was still fun to spend the evening with the family, enjoy some pizza, (and some wine for the parents...).

Paige, Valerie and Kaija were able to spend the week visiting family in Wisconsin while I had to head back to work. Paige thought it would be a great idea to help Kaija with some new clothes. I think you would classify this as a great success.

Week 02.07 - Merry Christmas to All, and to All a Good Night!

So I am a little late in posting up the Christmas photos. I hope you can forgive me. We had a very busy end of the year and things are just starting to settle down. We were able to go see Santa, after having prepped Paige for about two weeks. When she sat on his lap, she didn't have a total meltdown, but didn't have anything to say to the Jolly Old Man either. Ah well.

week 02.03 - Cards at the Cabin

After Thanksgiving we took the annual trek to the Cabin for second weekend of deer hunting in Wisconsin. Paige got to spend some quality time with Ayden, Denise, Valerie, Tiffany and Mandy while Roger, Bryan and I were running around in the woods. So Paige wasn't actually playing cards, but it sure looks like it if you ask me. We had a mildly successful hunt this year, Bryan and I both took small bucks. The Minnesota hunt was successful as well, with my Dad taking a trophy buck. Paige was interested in the deer, but continued to ask when they would wake up from being asleep. I guess that is another of life's lessons that I will have to figure out how to explain soon.

Week 01.52 - Ladybug, You've Got Style

We went down to see Morgan and Max for Halloween and Trick-or-Treating. Paige had a blast, and at the end of the night didn't want to come home. She wanted "more houses." She only wore her hood up for approximately 10 seconds of the entire evening. Which is too bad, because I really think it made the costume. This photo also marks the end of PJ01.52. The second year of the blog has been a lot of fun, and I have full intentions of continuing on for another year. I may not have quite as many bonus photos as time goes on, but we will see. I will be making a short post about the coming weeks and what to expect.

We spent a wonderful Saturday with Grandma Alice and Grandpa Steve at the pumpkin patch and at the apple orchard. Paige picked out a nice big pumpkin to carve (in addition to the ones from Grandpa Will and Grandma Teri's garden). I don't know if she was more excited about picking pumpkins and gourds, the petting zoo, or about the quarter rides out in front. Either way, she had a great time.

Week 01.48 - Here Comes the Flood

Well, fall is in full swing here in the Twin Cities. We took a trip over to Minneapolis to walk along Minnehaha Creek and check out the waterfall (which was roaring like it was spring.) Paige enjoyed playing in the water and the mud. She also was frequently pointing out and handing us leaves that she found on the ground.

"Oh no, Momma, what is wrong with the Packers?"

I wish I could say the grass was greener (purple-er?) on this side Paige, but alas things are not shaping up so well this football season for either team.

Week 01.47 - Girl, Why'd You Run Away?

Paige participated in her first race at the Twin Cities Marathon Family Races Day. She ran in the Toddler Trot. She was a little scared at first with all of the confusion at the starting line when the race started, but she figured it out after a bit. She loves to run, so it worked out well. Judging from this photo, I am guessing she is going to have her Mother's running stride. What do you think?

Week 01.46 - Zero

"Do I wanna go for a ride? Nah dude, I'm just hanging out making my best Chuckie Cheese face. Plus you're kinda creepy, even if you do look a little bit like the man in the yellow hat, sans yellow hat that is."

Paige's cousin Ayden was in town and stayed overnight on Saturday. Paige was super excited to see him. Of course, we had to plan all sorts of activities for them to do. Including a visit to the old Chuckie Cheese. For some reason Paige kept coming back to this little car ride. She just loved it. Personally I am a little creeped out by that dude.

"Is this the right spot, Daddy?"

Paige is becoming quite the assistant. She was a big help on a portrait shoot.

"Here is my Blue Steel."

She does a pretty good job in front of the lens too.

"No talking during nap time! I mean it Mouse."

"I don't know about this. It is kind of high up here Momma."

We also took Paige and Ayden to the Blast indoor playground in Eagan. I think the only reason they were willing to leave is because we left the playground to go to Chuckie Cheese. Otherwise things might not have gone so well.

Week 01.45 - Circle of Confusion

Another great day at the park. You just can't keep her away from the slides. It is nice that the weather is cooling down for the fall, as she can get moving a little faster on them since her skin isn't sticking.

Week 01.44 - Timm's Hill

What trip to the Cabin would be complete without a trip up Timm's Hill? Ayden wanted to stop on the bench on the side of the trail to get a picture taken of the two of them. She sure looks up to him. Fun fact, Timm's Hills is the highest point in Wisconsin, measuring at 1,951.5 feet above sea-level.

Paige made it up a few flights of the tower at the top of Timm's Hill, but not quite the whole way. Maybe next year.

Valerie ran her first half-marathon, (which is somewhat of a personal victory given our last attempt was horribly ruined last Halloween) the Dick Beardsley Half Marathon in Detroit Lakes, MN. My Dad, Valerie and I all ran the half, and Paige and my Mom walked the 5K. All in all it was a very successful day. And yes, Paige, Dick Beardsley is a little bit faster than I am. Just a bit.

Week 01.43 - Round and Round

We spent labor day weekend at Valerie's Dad's cabin in Wisconsin. Paige was able to spend lots of quality time with her cousin Ayden. What trip to the cabin would be complete without a little spin on the 4-Wheeler? Paige loved it.

Well, it is that time of year again, the Great Minnesota Get-Together, the Minnesota State Fair. Paige had a great time, and here is some of the proof. We also ran into Alicia, Neil and Amelia (of Baby 365) but alas both of the kids were nearing the end of their ability to enjoy the fair, so we had very little time to chat. To the photos, batman!

We took the shuttle bus to the State Fair (it is the ONLY way to go. No sitting in traffic, no paying for parking, and the shuttle is free. How could you go wrong?) This was Paige's first experience on a bus, and she really enjoyed it.

Perhaps the coolest part of the fair. They had a Little Farmer area set up where Paige could follow through from planting seeds and feeding animals to harvesting the products and "selling" them at the Farmer's Market. It was really cool. She got to take a spin on a John Deere Tractor, and got the great John Deere deer horn hat that you see above. Very cool.

Week 01.42 - Portrait Lighting

"Picking tomatoes is fun, and so easy!"

Paige loves to help out in the garden. Unfortunately she hasn't figured out that you only pick the red tomatoes.

"Ok Daddy, I'm ready to go running!"

What, you don't wear footie pajamas and a tutu when you go running? Hah! looks like the joke is on you.

"OK, Elmo, you are all set."

Paige managed to take out all of the diaper changing supplies, including the changing mat, and helped Elmo out a bit. I guess Elmo must have had an accident. Funny thing is, she can probably put a diaper on Elmo better than I can put one on her...Then again, Elmo doesn't try to kick you.

Week 01.41 - Over the River and Through the Woods [Updated]

Paige spent the week at Grandpa Roger and Nanna Denise's house, and I haven't had the chance to look over the photos they took, but as soon as I do, I will update this post. (From the ones that I have seen, it looks like Paige had a lot of fun.)

Paige has started a new game with us. She will hide, and then we have to run around trying to find her saying "Where's Paige, I don't see her." All the while she waits to jump out at us when she is convinced we have no idea where she is. It is great fun. The funny thing is, you can be the one to put the covers over her, and she does the same thing. Either way, I think 21 months is pretty impressive for Hide-and-Seek skills to be emerging (until at age 3 when she hides so well we think she ran away and leave to go find her).

"Waterslides, here we come!"

We had a quick trip to Stevens Point, and then on to Mt. Olympus at the Wisconsin Dells before paige headed off to spend the week with the grandparents. Paige was raring to go, and had a great time at the park.

"I've got an owee. I need a Hello Kitty band-aid, that will make me feel better."

Well, the inevitable has of course happened. Paige gets an owee, and Nanna gives her a Hello Kitty band-aid for it. Viola, Paige has lots of owees and needs lots of band-aids!

Week 01.40 - The Answers

"Can I have another Freezee Dad? I'm so hungry!"

Well, Paige had to go in for a procedure to figure out what the problem is with her digestion. They did some testing, took some biopsies and looked around a bit. Everything came back OK (which is great, and a relief, but we aren't any closer to an answer). In preparation for the procedure, Paige had to abstain from eating any solid foods for the 12 hours before the procedure, which was at 1:00 p.m., because she had to go under general anesthesia. So she ate quite a few freezees that day. She also got to sport her brand new Dora the Explorer Pajamas that I picked out for her. Pretty sweet right?

"Woah!"

Paige's pool in the backyard recently went through an upgrade. She loves the little slide.

"What are you doing up on that ladder Daddy?"

So, we had a squirrel decide that the attic would be a fantastic place to raise a family. Made numerous trips up the ladder to block off / attempt to catch the squirrel. In the end it chewed through a metal fence, and hasn't returned. Paige really wanted to climb the ladder too. I think she is a little too young to be grabbing at rabid pregnant squirrels, so I only let her climb up onto the bottom rung. At least a nice photo came out of the mess that the squirrel caused.

"I get cake! Cool."

Valerie decided that since the positive results from Paige's biopsies came that Paige should have cake on Friday night with my parents who were in town.

Week 01.39 - Swing Life Away

Paige is really enjoying the swing again. She want to be pushed as high as it can go. Which seems like a great idea, but you have to be careful or she'll clip you with a foot.

Paige is starting to learn to chase and really likes to just run. One of her favorite things to do is to tell me to run, and then she will try to catch me.

Week 01.38 - Dance, Dance.

"We're having a dance party today! How Exciting!"

Well, Paige had her first dance today. They set up a "dance party" for all of the classrooms at daycare, and from the photos and video clip that we got to see, it sure looked liked Paige had fun. This is, of course, not surprising, considering the fact that she loves to dance all the time.

"I need to take a bit of rest. You don't want to go swimming right after eating you know."

We stopped at Birch Lake on the way back home from the Cabin to have a picnic and get in some swimming. Paige had a blast. For some reason she grabbed her towel, put it up on the swing chair, and just chilled out for a bit.

"Will you buy me a swimming pool Momma?"

I imagine that will be the same smile she flashes in five years when she asks for an in-ground swimming pool. Hopefully we will have built up our defenses by then.

Week 01.37 - Dog Down!

"I love hot dogs! Especially hot dogs from Zup's. This cabin stuff is great, I get to cook my own food, and swing this giant stick around!"

We spent the weekend at our cabin in Ely with our friends Breanna and Mike. Of course we had to roast hot dogs and polish sausage over the fire. Paige gave it a shot, but sadly her hot dog ended up being counted as a casualty when she started swinging the hot dog around, and lost it in the fire. Ah well, I guess that is what happens when a 20-month old tries to cook on a hot dog on a stick. No patience in these kids these days I tell you.

Car rides are not going quite so smoothly as they used to go. With a little help from "Melmo" (Elmo) and "Mouse" (Minnie Mouse) they aren't a total hair-ripping-out disaster, but they have not been too much fun. Hopefully this stage is short-lived.

On Friday we decided to take Paige to the North American Bear Center to take a look at the Bears. She was too young for most of the exhibits and such, but she was able to see a few bears at least.

Also, note to self: When the background provides the context of what is going on, probably a good idea to stop down enough to ensure that it actually is in focus.

Week 01.36 - We Are Family

We had Valerie's Mom's side of the family reunion on Saturday. Fun was had by all, but Paige managed to come down with a low-grade fever, and was generally disagreeable for most of the day. She did still manage to have some fun though.

Along with the smiles when she wants to be photographed comes the desire also to not be bothered by being photographed other times...

Uh, Paige, there is a monkey in your bed. Thought you should know.

"I guess I'll just hang in this parking lot in Osseo. Seems interesting enough."

Grabbed a quick shot as the sun was starting to go down as we were doing a car swap in Osseo, Wisconsin. Soon after Paige was all strapped in to Uncle Bryan's truck.

Week 01.35 - Please State Your Answer in the Form of a Question

Pretty much Paige's standard answer to any question these days is "Uhm." When you give her two choices she says Uhm, and then she proceeds to cry when you try to give her either choice. I don't understand it all that well. Hopefully it is just a short phase.

Paige and Gavin getting ready to head to the park to go down the slides. Paige also showed a renewed interest in the swings.

Paige figured out how to open the sliding door portion of the camper door. Now we just have to make sure that she doesn't open the door and fall out. (again).

No super special story. Paige is just fascinated by the painting supplies.

Week 01.34 - Twenty-Eight Teeth

"Another hotel room, another day. Life on the road man. It takes it's toll. Anyone seen my sunglasses? I've got a killer headache."

Paige, Valerie, Grandpa Roger and Grandma Denise took on a daunting task. Driving the 16 some odd hours from Beaver Dam to Denver to visit Paige's Great Uncle Bernie, his family and our friends Tera and Steve. They stopped at a hotel in some place in Nebraska (let's be honest, even if I told you what city, would you even know where it was, or how to distinguish it from any other random place in Nebraska?) for the night. Paige, in her true rock star fashion had to trash the place.

Sweep is providing Paige some assistance in keeping her head from rolling back and forth in her travel induced coma on the way to Denver. (Sweep is the very poorly named monkey on the Paige's left, who is so named due to the previous week's Twins v. Brewers disaster. The monkey is wearing a Brewers jersey.)

"Cheese!"

Paige has officially learned (with very little to no encouragement) to "smile" for the camera. Super excited for all of the cute smiles. Super sad for the end of capturing Paige without any thought as to what a camera actually means, and that she is expected to be anything other than herself. (and yes, she actually says "cheese," though it is debatable whether she thinks it is funny, or is actually requesting a snack.) Paige was home from Denver just long enough to trash the place before we headed off to Wisconsin for the weekend. It was a quick turn around, but in the end well worth it.

"Bubble spewing lawn mower. My turn?."

We went camping at Wolf River over the 4th of July weekend. Gavin (Paige's second cousin) and Paige had a good time together, though the confrontations over the bubble wand and bubble lawn mower got somewhat heated at times.

Paige also had the opportunity to meet her second cousin Collin, who was born on June 26, 2010, and was taken from this world on July 9, 2010. Collin, we shall forever love you and miss you.

Week 01.33 - C'mon Ride It (The Train)

We took advantage of the great weather and headed to Como Zoo for Father's Day. It was pretty packed, but Paige had a great time playing in the water zone, riding the train, and of course, looking at all of the animals. Although, there wasn't a lot of movement going on due to the heat.

Paige and Valerie took a road trip to Wisconsin (and then to Denver which is to follow next week). The Twins were in town, and unfortunately suffered horrible defeat at the hands of the Brewers. They were in fact, swept. Well done Brewers, Well Done. Hopefully they will meet in the World Series this year, how fun would that be?

Week 01.32 - The Petite Salon

Well, it had to happen some time. Paige's first haircut. A good friend of ours, Bridget who is at The Petite Salon, did a wonderful job, and Paige was such a trooper. She sat still in the seat the entire time (ok, it only lasted about 10 minutes, and she had her bangs trimmed and the back straightened up a bit). Though subtle, we think it looks great.

As you will notice in the background the garage is in pretty rough shape. Valerie took the week off to try and get it scraped and painted. Alas the weather conspired against us. At least the scraping is done and priming is underway now.

Week 01.30 - Use Your Napkin

Well, Paige has learned that she needs a napkin or a kleenex to wipe her nose. Unfortunately, she thinks that each one is only good for one quick wipe. Add this to the fact that she can now climb up onto the dining room chairs, and this is what you get.

It is amazing the things they have created. They have these new markers (maybe they aren't new, and I just am old) that will only write on the special paper that they come with. They don't write on the carpet, walls, couch, face, clothing, shoes or Kaija. Ingenious! Paige loves to color.

"See, I can do it all by myself. Quit trying to do stuff for me."

Week 01.29 - I Pledge Allegiance to Who?

"Great Grandma Dori, do you know who we should be rooting for? I don't get it..."

Well, Round One of Brewers v. Twins was a rousing success for ye olde Minnesota Twins. A whole troupe of cheese-eating, beer drinking, sconnie's came to town for the game (aka Grandparents, Great-Grandparents, Uncle and Aunt-to-Be) on Sunday. Sounds like it was a fantastic game (I wouldn't know, as Paige was not having any of the sitting and waiting for a baseball game to happen. We managed to catch the first inning live, and the ninth inning on the tv near the concession stand.) I give Target Field an "A" for game viewing and actual baseball, an A for accessibility of food and beverage, a D- for logistical planning (aka the layout of stairs/access to get to the upper decks is crazy stupid), a C for location, and an F for failing to put a retractable roof on the stupid thing. Although if you were to ask me my scorecard for the old Dome, it would be straight C- to F's across the board.

We went camping in Stevens Point for the weekend with a large portion of Valerie's family. We had a great time. Paige was able to take more than a few rides in her new "all-terrain" edition of the classic Radio Flyer.

Week 01.27 - As Sure as the Sun Will Set

Boy, it is tough putting Paige to bed when it is still light outside. It probably relates back to my utter dislike of turning in early that is only recently started to wane a bit. Paige just does not like going to sleep. She can be so tired that she starts to fall over, and yet she will still kick, scream and cry to avoid going to bed. Hopefully it won't last until she is 30.

Paige's current favorite toy by a landslide. Ten buckets that stack, and all fit inside one another, like the Russian Matryoshka Dolls. She just loves them. Week 01.26 - A Quick Swim.

We were in Appleton for the wedding of two good friends, so Grandma Alice and Grandpa Steve came up for a visit (and to take Paige with them for the weekend). Paige had a blast swimming in the pool, and playing with the grandparents.

Paige loves to put on lotion after her bath, as well as putting it on Valerie, me, the rocking chair, and her little people. Although, the concept of rubbing it in still seems to be a bit lost.

Week 01.25 - Green Thumb

Well, it is that time of year again. Time to get the plants in the ground, and the vegetables growing. I believe we are still technically capable of getting a frost, but am fully willing to risk it to get a jump on the season. In truth, we could have planted about two weeks ago.

Week 01.24 - Wooden Truck

We went to visit my parents this weekend, and there was a great surprise. Paige has a wonderful new toy to play with at my parent's house. A wooden truck, complete with little cars to haul around, and two drivers. She had a lot of fun driving it around yelling Beeb Beets!

Week 01.23 - A Walk in the Woods

Well, we are in the middle of quite possibly the nicest spring in the history of Minnesota. The weather has been fantastic. Paige, Kaija and I decided to head out for a walk in the woods along the river bluff, and Paige decided she wanted to take a short rest underneath this fallen tree. I was happy to oblige.

Paige did a very good job collecting Easter Eggs around the yard at Grandma Alice's house. She found every single one, and only needed a little help.

Paige has learned the word Bubble. Most likely because that is the name of the fish at daycare, but she has also learned that it means throwing soapy water around (and trying to drink it) too.

"You didn't want to sit in this spot did you Grandma?"

(Yes, that is three pictures from one day...sue me!)

"Is there anything better than Easter baskets and toothbrushes?"

You really have to pry the toothbrush out of her hand. She doesn't give it up without a fight. Now, if that can continue on into her teens, that would be terrific.

Week 01.20 - Paige in Purple

Week 01.16 - Snowball Fight

Uncle Bryan came up to spend the weekend. The weather outside is starting to look up, so we took advantage of it (and the DVR was taping curling anyway). Paige had a very good time. We figured out that you could put socks on her hands, and they actually stay on her hands. They quickly got wet of course, but it was better than nothing.

Week 01.15 - The Triple McDuss 360°

Well, it is Winter Olympics time, and that means one thing. Not leaving the house for two weeks! Grandpa Roger came up for a short visit, and Valerie was able to get a shot of the finish of the Triple McDuss 360°. It can only properly be completed sitting in a diaper box. Paige won first place when she pulled out the trick.

T is for Thief! Busted. We tend to store our cookies in the freezer. Sort of an out of sight, out of mind kind of thing. Paige snuck one of of the freezer though.

Paige is starting to spend a little bit of time in her room alone. When I checked in on her, she had climbed onto the rocking chair, and pulled her puzzle up with her. It is hard to believe that she can do so many things all by herself now.

Week 01.14 - The Best Camera Is the One You Have With You

Paige loves to hit the top of her Sit & Spin and dance to the music. She gets super excited and stomps her feet and laughs. I'll have to see if we can capture a video of it and upload it to flickr. On an equipment note, the camera had to get shipped off to KEH along with my 70-200 because it was losing connection, so I didn't have it all week. We had to resort to the point & shoot and the cell phones. There were several times that I would have liked to have my Nikon with me, but you have to make due with what you have. Plus, if you have a camera with you, then you can make a picture. Without a camera, then you would have no picture. Chase Jarvis was right. (Now I just need to let myself believe it, and not fret so much over gear)

"Can, I have another one Momma?"

Nothing like baking chocolate chip cookies. Paige had a good time, but kept trying to grab cookies when we weren't looking.

Paige decided to grab her lamb from underneath the rocking chair. She didn't plan her exit strategy. So of course, the only reasonable thing to do was grab the camera and watch her figure it out on her own. That is what we as parents are supposed to do right? Allow our children to figure out things on their own, all while saving these things for posterity to bring out at our children's graduation party.

"I'm a big girl, I drink from a glass with a straw, not that baby sippy-cup."

Two seconds later Valerie was on her way down to the training room to get some towels. Not quite there yet Paige, but she is starting to drink from a straw, as long as you don't let her hold the cup.
